Method and device for testing crop plant lines in plant breeding

The true nematode resistance of crop plant lines in plant breeding is determined by observing the increase in root length, the roots first being in a pure nutrient solution and then in a nutrient solution complemented with a growth substance. A nematode resistance exists when the ratio of the two values is greater than 1. A device for carrying out this and other processes for determining a resistance to phytopathogens comprises a board (1) made of transparent material which is provided with longitudinal grooves (6) and covered with a layer of fibres (7) and which is provided, on one edge, with recesses (4) for accommodating seeds or eye shoots. The paper layer (7) provides nutrient solution for the plants. The board (1) allows the growth and a potential attack by phytopathogens to be observed.
