The invention relates to a lifting appliance having a frame fastened in the underside area of a fixed support and lifting gear which is movable in the vertical direction, carries a load and is mounted underneath the frame. In order to ensure operationally reliable manipulation, safe acceptance of the loads and simple uncomplicated release of the loads for transport on a motor-vehicle roof, the lifting appliance is characterised in that the lifting gear is designed in the form of a rigid lifting platform, and in that at least one lifting-platform part carrying the load can be uncoupled from the frame and can be used as a motor-vehicle roof rack.
