The invention proposes a high-power friction-drum motor for industrial conveyor belts. In this arrangement, one end of the housing 21 of the electric motor 2 is mounted firmly in the drum 1, on the corresponding drum journal 13. A planetary gear mechanism 3 couples the rotor shaft 221 to the output-end end plate 11 of the drum 1, the internal gear 31 of the planetary gear mechanism 3 being connected rigidly at one end to the end plate 11 and being supported rotatably on the housing 21 of the electric motor 2 at the other end. The connection of the end plate to the motor housing and the interposed coupled internal gear thus gives a flexurally rigid element, so that the axes of the mutually aligned journals carrying the gears in the interior of the planetary gear mechanism do not undergo a displacement relative to one another, even in the case of high loads on the drum. <IMAGE>
