The invention relates to a process for preparing a body from a blank of foam, rigid foam or the like by means of a hot wire cutting device, thermal cutting device or the like. The object of the present invention is to provide a process of the aforementioned kind with which it is possible to produce even a few copies of a body and the bodies should only differ slightly from the model or from the other bodies produced, and the process should be cost-effective to carry out. This object is achieved in that a plurality of imaginary planes are passed through the blank, in each plane, tangents extending in this plane are applied onto the contour of the body, defined points of each tangent of a plane at or outside the blank are connected to corresponding defined points of the corresponding tangent of the adjacent plane at or outside the blank by means of flexible, heat-resistant connections and the cutting element is guided along these connections.
