The invention relates to a load-bearing device and a lubricant composition which contains such a device. The device preferably comprises a statistical mixture of a number of different linked phosphorous amide compounds with formula I, <IMAGE> in which X1, X2 and X3 are independently O or S; R1 and R2 are independently a hydrocarbon, hydrocarbon-based oxy in which the hydrocarbon moiety contains 6-22 carbon atoms, or hydrocarbon-based thio with 4 to about 34 carbon atoms; R3, R4, R5 and R6 are independently hydrogen or an alkyl group with 1 to about 22 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group with about 4 to 22 carbon atoms, or an aromatic hydrocarbon, an alkyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon or an aromatic hydrocarbon- substituted alkyl with 6 to about 34 carbon atoms; n is 0 or 1; n' is 1, 2 or 3; R7 is hydrogen or alkyl with 1-22 carbon atoms; where, when n' is 1, R8 has been chosen from H, -ROH, -ROR, -RSR and <IMAGE> and where n' is 2, R8 has been chosen from <IMAGE> and where n' is 3, R8 is <IMAGE> in which R is independently hydrogen or an alkyl moiety, alkylene or alkylidene with 1-12 carbon atoms and R' is hydrogen or an alkyl moiety, alkylene, alkylidene or carboxyl with 1-60 carbon atoms.
