A clamping wedge (11) having an approximately rectangular cross-section, which can be inserted into gaps or cracks (2) in the rock and is provided with a wire loop (12) or the like, is held in the wire loop (12) so as to be freely rotatable about a central spindle (A) and has three different wedge sizes. One surface (21, 23, 25) of the two outer surfaces (21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26) of the clamping wedge (11), which are situated opposite one another in each case, is of convex shape, in such a way that three-point support is provided in each of the three clamping positions of the clamping wedge (11). As a result of this, it is possible to insert the clamping wedge (11) in a reliable fashion in three different positions in a gap or crack in the rock, and the clamping wedge (11) can also be released easily. <IMAGE>
