The invention relates to a protective sleeve for avoiding erosion damage to heat exchange tubes which conduct media containing solids, in particular salts, having an essentially cylindrical shape and an external annular collar whose axial length is at least three times as large as its inside diameter. In order to do justice to the object of specifying a protective sleeve whose use in heat exchangers leads to a substantial prolongation of the service lives in conjunction with reduced outlay on maintenance or repair, the effective length of the heat exchange tubes being less impaired in this case, it is proposed that the distance of the collar (2) from the inlet side (3) of the protective sleeve (1) is at least as large as half its axial length.
