PURPOSE:To attain to enhance discrimination accuracy by discriminating a sound source, by preliminarily registering the frequency pattern of the signal from the sound source and matching this pattern with the frequency pattern from the sound source. CONSTITUTION:The AE signal detected through a transducer 1 receives impedance transformation by a preamplifier to be inputted to band-pass filters BPF51-55 to different frequency pass band through a coaxial cable 3 and a buffer amplifier 4. The AE signal divided into five frequency bands is inputted to a multiplexer 9 through logarithmic amplifiers 61-65 and detectors 71-75. The outputs thereof are inputted to a microcomputer 11 as frequency patterns of signal levels corresponding to five bands at certain time and the distance data between two points of the signal levels of said frequency patterns is calculated. This distance data of the frequency patterns is compared with that corresponding to the preliminarily registered frequency pattern of the signal from a sound source to enable the highly accurate discrimination of the sound source.
