PURPOSE:To reduce the frequency of generation of horizontal scrolls, to reduce the fine movement of a display screen and to make it possible to observe display data easily by forming a scroll control part in a processor to reduce the frequency of character overflow. CONSTITUTION:Commands, character data, etc. inputted from a keying device 32 are processed by the processor 30, a text is formed, stored in a memory 31 and then outputted to a display device 33 and a printer 34. When the size of the defined screen of the text is large and can not be simultaneously displayed on the display device, the scroll control part 37 dynamically changes the display screen position of the device 33 on the defined picture plane of the text. Namely, the control part 37 controls the final display character position A of the display screen and when a document processing part 36 sets up the number of input characters, executes prescribed decision by using the current cursor position B. On the basis of the decided result, the control part 37 executes the horizontal scroll with scroll width n + X by using a scroll constant X. Consequently, the frequency of generation of horizontal scrolls is reduced and the display screen can be easily observed.
