PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetoresistance effect head which permits narrower tracking by constituting an electrode part so as to include a soft conductive magnetic film formed on a bias layer. CONSTITUTION:The soft magnetic films 6 are laminated on both ends of an electromagnetic transducer 4 and the bias angle at both ends of an MR element 1 in the longitudinal direction thereof is set larger than the bias angle in the central part by utilizing the static magnetical coupling of the MR element 1 and the films 6 and the magnetic field generated by the sense current shunting to the films 6 to compensate the decrease of the bias angle at both ends of a magnetic field detecting region L. The decrease of the efficiency in said region is therefore compensated and the reproduction waveform distortion is eliminated so that the narrower tracking is made possible. The net electric resistance in the region where the films 6 are laminated is set small by selecting the film thickness and material of the films 6, by which the resistance change as against the external signal magnetic field is decreased. The magnetic field detection region L of the transducer 4 is therefore strictly controlled. |
