PURPOSE:To enable the quick and automatic formation of the optimum metal die arrangement by fitting to a bending machine by extracting the optimum metal die in the combination of the metal dies within the range of a work length set in plural metal dies having different length. CONSTITUTION:A bending is performed in a bending machine by ascending a bend beam 9 by the operation of a fluid pressure cylinder 71 via a link 73, eccentric shaft 75 and shank part 79 with pressing the sheet material 3 placed on a table 7 by metal dies 5, 15 via a ram 11. Said metal dies 5, 15 are decided by extracting the optimum combination that the difference from the below set work length being within the allowable value among the metal dies combination coming within the range of the set work length from the plural metal dies having different length by using a NC device. The metal dies 5, 15 becoming said optimum combination are taken out at the transfer position 37 by selecting each holding step 5A ..., 15A ... of the metal die of a rack structure body 21 and transferred to the prescribed position at lower part of the ram 11 by a transfer device 87.
