PURPOSE:To prevent occurrence of bucking and to expand a long-sized pipe properly by flare working a pipe end and press fitting a mandrel into the pipe with the flare worked part held by clamp members. CONSTITUTION:A flare worked part 22 is formed by increasing the diameter of an end of a pipe 5. The flare worked part 22 is held by an upper and a lower clamp members 12 and 12a horizontally. A mandrel 16 set to face the end of the pipe 5 is advanced and is press fitted into the inside of the pipe 5 to perform expansion. Buckling such as undesirable bending stresses of the pipe 5 does not occur because the end of the pipe 5 is held. Release of the pipe 5 is prevented because an expansion step part 24 of the flare worked part 22 abuts on the step part 23 of expanded grooves 14 and 14a of the clamp members 12 and 12a.
