POLYETHER ESTER, PRODUCTION AND USE THEREOF

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer, having good moldability, transparency and gas barrier properties and useful for containers, by reacting a specific polyester diol with an aromatic diol and epihalohydrin in the presence of a base and phase-transfer catalyst in a mixed solvent of two phases. CONSTITUTION:(A) A polyester diol expressed by formula I (R<2> is 2-20C bifunctional aromatic hydrocarbon; R<3> is 2-20C bifunctional hydrocarbon; R<4> is 2-20C bifunctional hydrocarbon; p is 0 or a positive number) is reacted with (B) an aromatic diol expressed by formula II (R' is bifunctional aromatic hydrocarbon consisting essentially of p-phenylene) and (C) an epihalohydrin in the presence of a base and a phase-transfer catalyst in a mixed solvent of two phases consisting of water and an organic solvent to afford a linear polyether ester expressed by formula III [m and n are positive numbers; the value of m/(m+n) is 0.02-0.997].
