PURPOSE:To obtain a good horizontal resolution of high S/N ratio, good color reproductivity and wide luminance signal area by color-multiplexing with a comparatively low carrier. CONSTITUTION:A signal from an image pickup tube 1 on which a color stripe filter 1a is provided is AD-converted at a converter 3 through a pre-amplifier 2 and is written in order at a field memory 4 in the directions of points a11, a12..., a21, a22..., a31, a32.... The information signal is read out in order in a rectangular direction to a write direction, that is, in the directions of points an, a21..., a12, a22..., a13, a23... and the signal that is DA-converted at a converter 5 is the same signal as a color multiplexing signal that is obtained by a general step energy system. At such a case, when a sampling theorem condition is satisfied, it becomes the same signal as the signal color-multiplexed with the step energy system and even when the phase or the frequency of the sampling is changed, a fundamental wave and the secondary higher harmonic component signal are reproduced with fidelity and are demodulated at a color demodulation circuit 6.
