PURPOSE:To obtain iron oxide for high-purity ferrite efficiently in case of crushing a granulated refined ore obtained from a hematite ore or a magnetite ore into the desired particle size by subjecting the granulated refined ore to a sodium hydroxide-treatment. CONSTITUTION:A hematite ore or a magnetic ore is granulated and screened to obtain the granulated and screened ore having 10-250mu particle size distribution. Next, before or after crushing the screened ore, it is treated in the solution containing 5-80% sodium hydroxide at >=50 deg.C under the pressure of >=10kg/cm<2>. In the above-described method, a red hematite ore or a magnetic ore whose main ingredient is natural iron sesquioxide or triiron tetraoxide is used as the starting material. These kinds of materials are easily available, so the materials are obtained very easily. Also, the crushing is carried out after the ore floatation process, so it is effective for the separation without causing slime coating.
