PURPOSE:To stably and efficiently produce composite powder by a mechanical alloying method by specifying the temp. and oxygen concn. in an attritor treatment vessel until the composite powder attains the satd. hardness after the start of treatment. CONSTITUTION:Metallic powder, non-metallic powder, base alloy powder and balls for grinding are introduced into a water-cooled vessel of the dry attritor and are mixed and ground by the rotation of an agitator, by which the metallic powders, etc. are plastically deformed and are compounded so as to uniformly disperse the oxide particles, etc. The temp. in the attritor treatment chamber is maintained at <=60 deg.C to prevent the excessive joining between the powders and the sticking to the balls and agitator until the composite powder attains the satd. hardness after the start of the treatment. The oxygen concn. in the vessel is maintained at <=0.5vol% to prevent the deterioration of the high-temp. characteristic and mechanical properties of the final alloy. The alloy is subjected to the mechanical alloying treatment under the same conditions for the time of >=3 times the time until the composite powder attains the satd. hardness after the start of the treatment.
