PURPOSE:To produce high-purity sepiolite fine powder which is large in a specific surface area and hollow by granulating and cracking a raw ore of sepiolite to make it a specified grain size and removing a coarse grain part with a classifier. CONSTITUTION:A raw ore of sepiolite is previously heat-treated at 50-600 deg.C temp. region to separate one or all parts of water of crystallization. Then after granulating it up to <=5mm by means of a shock or crushing system, it is pulverized with a cracking system having a shearing or frictional action to crack it n <=50mu. Furthermore the coarse grain part is removed with a classifier to separate the impurities. Thereby the fine sepiolite powder which has <=10mu mean grain size and >=150m<2>/g specific surface area (BET method) and is hollow and large in the aspect ratio is easily obtained.
