PURPOSE:To realize a digital telephone set with high convenience by providing a confirming means for the presence/absence state of a user and controlling the actuation of a call control means according to whether the user is present or not. CONSTITUTION:When there is an incoming signal, an interface circuit 2 reports the incoming to the processor 131 of an input/output signal control part 13 and an incoming operation is started. The processor 131 of the input/output signal control part 13 receives a presence/absence confirmation signal which is outputted by a presence/ absence confirmation sensor 19 and digitized by a presence/absence confirmation sensor interface circuit 20 through an input/output control circuit 134 and discriminates whether the user is present or not. A call signal and a ring-back tone control signal are outputted to a calling circuit 18 through the input/output control circuit 134, so that a sounder 17 sounds with sound volume corresponding to the preset position of a sound volume changeover switch 23 and tone corresponding to the preset position of a tone changeover switch 24. When the user's absence is discriminated, the processor 131 of the control part 13 outputs the call signal and ring-back tone control signal through the control circuit 134 to make the sounder 17 to sound with a little bit larger sound volume and moderate tone.
