<p>PURPOSE:To prevent steering force from being changed in dependence upon steering speed, by detecting the steering speed so that the steering system is applied with a steering assist torque which has been compensated for a variation in the efficiency of a reduction gear corresponding to a variation in the rotational speed of the reduction gear. CONSTITUTION:A d.c. servomotor 15 for applying an assist torque to a steering system 10, is coupled to the steering system 10 through the intermediary of an electromagnetic clutch 15a and a worm gear 12b. A steering angle sensor 18 detects a steering angle and delivers a steering angle detection signal which is a pulse signal in accordance with the rotational direction and speed of a steering shaft. A control device 19 is composed of a control circuit 20 which receives signals from a vehicle speed sensor 16, a steering torque sensor 17 and the steering angle sensor 18, and delivers control signals S1 through S3 for controlling the motor 15 and a control signal S4 for controlling the electromagnetic clutch 15a in accordance with the detection signals, and a drive circuit 30 for driving the motor 15.</p> |
