PURPOSE:To prevent lowering in the sensitivity and an increase in fog by spectrally sensitizing silver halide particles in a silver halide emulsion layer with a specified compound. CONSTITUTION:This silver halide photographic sensitive material has a silver halide emulsion layer contg. silver halide particles sensitized spectrally with a compound represented by the formula. The merocyanine dye represented by the formula is added by an amount required to spectrally sensitize the silver halide emulsion, e.g., 1X10<-5>X2X10<-2> mole, preferably 1X10<-4>-2X10<-3> mole per 1 mole silver halide. The distribution of the silver halide particles in the emulsion may have any of monodispersion and polydispersion forms, but it is preferable that the particles are monodispersed so as to make the sensitivity of the particles uniform. The particles size is <=2mum, preferably <=1.0mum, more preferably <=0.8mum. The sensitive material has high sensitivity to green light during exposure at high illuminance and undergoes little change in the characteristics such as the sensitivity to green light, fog and gradient during storage at high temp. and humidity. |
