PURPOSE:To prevent ink transfer in the non-heated portion to obtain a transfer image of good printing quality, by using a thermal transfer material wherein fine particles are fixed on a hot melt ink layer under a specific condition. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal transfer material 1, a heat transfer layer 3 consisting of a hot melt ink layer 3a and fine particles 3b fixed thereon is formed on a substrate 2. The ink layer 3a is made of a hot melt ink wherein a colorant is dispersed in a hot melt binder. As the fine particles 3b, either inorganic or organic fine particles can be used with the diameter (d) having a relation to the thickness (t) of the hot melt ink layer 3a of t<d<=5t. The distribution of the fine particles 3b on the surface of the ink layer 3a is determined in a range 1-10%. Accordingly, the projections of the fine particles 3b inhibit the contact of the ink layer 3a with a recording medium 4, preventing the ink transfer in the non-heated portion, and in non-heating state further preventing the scumming of the recording medium caused by the release of the ink layer 3a from the substrate 2 just due to pressure application. |
