NEW MATERIAL:Monoazo compounds in the free form of formula I, wherein R is H, lower alkyl; A is phenylene, naphthylene; X is Cl, carboxypyridinio group; Y is SO2CH=CH2 etc.; Z is a group which can be removed by an alkali; D is phenylene which may be substituted with 1, 2 or 3 groups selected from among nethyle, ethyl, methoxy, etc.; and salts thereof. USE:Dyes which dye or print fibrous materials. Compds. of formula I exhibit high build up and give dyed articles having excellent fastness to chlorine, sunlight and perspiration and good stability against acids. PREPARATION:The monoazo compds. of formula II corresponding to the compds. of formula I where X is Cl, can be obtd. in the following manner. A compd. of formula III is diazotized and then coupled with a compd. of formula IV. The resulting compd. of formula V is condensed with cyanuric chloride. The resulting dichlorotriazinyl compd. is condesed with a compd. of formula VI to obtain the desired compd.
