PURPOSE:To decrease the total thrust load by installing a hermetic double-shaft motor between a plurality of screw compressors to drive them so as to arrange the inlet side and discharge side of each screw compressor oppositely to each other. CONSTITUTION:When a hermetic double-shaft motor 4 is driven, the gas sucked through an inlet opening 5 undergoes the first stage compression in a first-stage screw compressor, and goes into an air passage 11 in a second-stage screw compressor 3. Then the gas is sucked through an inlet opening 10 to undergo the second-stage compression, and is discharged through a discharge opening 12. In this case, thrust loads T1, T2 act on rotors 13, 17 of compressor 2, 3 respectively, according to each differential pressure between its discharge and inlet pressure. As the inlet side and discharge side of each of compressors 2, 3 are arranged oppositely to each other, thrust loads T1, T2 work face to face, offsetting each other. Thus, the total thrust load can be decreased.
