PURPOSE:To dry a pencil uniformly and continuously by transporting the pencil on a conveyor to an UV ray irradiation chamber, directly irradiating UV rays on the pencil and simultaneously irradiating the UV rays reflected by an irregular reflector and a concave reflector convergently on the pencil. CONSTITUTION:The irradiator is composed of a conveyor 1 consisting of two endless chains 2 stretched in parallel at an appropriate interval and an UV irradiation chamber 4 for surrounding the conveyor 1 over the prescribed length. Many serrate supporting plates 5 for bearing both end parts of a pencil (a) in point contact are protrusively provided to the outer peripheral surface of each chain. UV ray irradiating lamps 6b and 6a are provided on the upper and the lower surface sides of a pencil which is transported into the irradiation chamber 4, opposed to the pencil and shifted from each other in the traveling direction of the pencil. Irregular reflectors 7 and 8 are respectively provided above and below the pencil with the irradiating lamp in between and concave reflectors placing their focuses in the vicinity of the transported pencil are oppositely furnished to the left and to the right.
