PURPOSE:To improve the yield and quality of a culture an shorten the cultivation time, etc., by taking out aseptically and continuously a culture fluid from a cultivation tank, filtering the culture fluid, measuring the main carbon source concentration, etc. using the filtrate and controlling the cultivation using the measured value. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism capable of assimilating a main carbon source and producing a metabolite is cultivated. In the above-mentioned cultivation method, a fine stream for taking a culture fluid 2 continuously and aspetically from the interior of a cultivation tank 1 and returning the culture fluid 2 to the cultivation tank 1 is formed. The culture fluid 2 is partially filtered and any one or more of the main carbon source concentration, culture medium component concentration and metabolite concentration of the filtered fine stream are continuously or intermittently measured to carry out cultivation control of the microbial cell concentration and/or metabolite concentration using the measured value or calculated value based thereon. Thereby, this method greatly contributes to not only the improvement in yield and quality of the culture, reduction in the cultivation time and energy saving but also the improvement in efficiency analysis of microbiological reaction, process analysis and scale-up.
