PURPOSE:To upgrade the antiblooming capability in case the accumulating time is shortened by providing a control means which intermittently deletes unnecessary charges during the accumulating time of the expelled charges but continuously eliminates the unnecessary charges during the period of actual accumulation. CONSTITUTION:Inside an image pickup means 100 composing of a CCD, a MOS, and an image pickup tube etc., a photodetecting part 101 to receive lights from an object is provided. A control means 200, after temporarily letting the means 100 expel charges from itself, executes the accumulation of actual image during the time until the next reading out. The accumulated charges are read out to an output terminal 300 by the next expelling action or by a timing different from the said expelling action. The means 200, further, lets the means 100 continuously eliminate the unnecessary charges at the photodetecting part during when the actual accumulation is being executed, but lets the said elimination be executed intermittently during the time when the accumulation of charges is being executed until the next expelling. Consequently, even if a strong light is made incident on the part 101 in case the actual accumulation time is shortened, the occurrence of blooming is effectively prevented.
