PURPOSE:To specify a contacting part by observing the temperature on the floating surface of a magnetic head which is floated concerning a transparent disk by an infrared detector, and detecting local temperature rise that occurs when it is contacted with the transparent disk. CONSTITUTION:A device is equipped with a transparent disk 5 that is rotated at a regulated speed, a magnetic head holding board 6 which holds a magnetic head 7 facing with one side surface of the transparent disk 5 and an infrared ray observing apparatus 8 which observes optically the temperature on the floating surface of the magnetic head 7 through the transparent disk 5. The infrared observing apparatus 8 consists of an infrared camera 81 and a CRT color display device 82 which displays in enlargement the temperature distribution on an observing surface observed by the infrared camera 81 using a picture image and a transparent glass is used for the transparent disk 5. Thus, with using the transparent disk in place of a magnetic disk, the contacting portion between the magnetic head and the magnetic disk can be visually specified.
