There is provided a composition which comprises (1) a predominantly C6-C12 high-boiling mixture of ketones, ethers, alcohols, esters, and aldehydes and (2) a fatty acid ester, such as sorbitan monooleate. Optionally, it can contain also a polyglycol having an average molecular weight of 3,800 or higher. There is provided also a method for defoaming an aqueous fluid system and preventing the formation of foam in said system, which method comprises adding to said system an effective defoaming and antifoaming amount of the aforesaid composition.
