Disclosed is an apparatus for inductive position determination comprising: an arrangement with a plurality of coils; a movable element for influencing the inductance of at least one of the coils depending on the distance of said element from the coil; a signal generator which is connected to first ends of the coils; a switching device for each of the coils for connecting a second end of the respective coil to a predetermined potential; a control device for actuating the switching devices in order to connect one of the coils to the predetermined potential; and an evaluation device for determining the position of the element with respect to the coil on the basis of a voltage at the coil. According to the invention, mobility of the element with respect to the coils is limited and the control device is designed to only connect the coils lying in the mobility region of the element to the predetermined potential.
