A road asphalt composition having a penetration at 25 DEG C. in the range of 85 to 100 is made by blending together: (a) a pitch having an initial boiling point of at least 520 DEG C. obtained as a residue in the visbreaking of crude oil, and (b) a distillation residue having a penetration at 25 DEG C. in the range of 150 to 500 obtained in the distillation of crude oil.
