Several bars (1a-d) lie parallel to each other, and perpendicular to the line along which vehicles move. The bars have an I-section, with supports (2) underneath then at an angle to their length. Each bar has a strain gauge (3) attached to its underside, the gauges on each being aligned with the vehicle movement. - Each strain gauge produces a signal (E1-4) which is then applied to a detector (4). By a data processing operation, the axle load of the passing vehicle may be determined.
