PURPOSE:To recover easily a misoperation just with a shift key operation by using a shift key to deliver an indication to a processor independently of a cursor key for cancel of the range designation. CONSTITUTION:A shift key 105 functions to cancel the designation of an editing range to a sentence under editing by shifting a cursor 102. If a deletion mode is set when the cursor 102 is set at a character 'SAKU', for example, the cursor 102 is shifted by a cursor key 104. Thus all areas through which the cursor 102 passed are equal to the designated areas. Here the key 104 is operated together with push of a shift key 105. Thus a processor 103 can shift the cursor 102 only without designating any range. In such a way, a correct range can be designated without releasing the deletion mode even in case the deletion mode is set while the cursor 102 is set at a wrong position.
