A sample of the material is burned in an enclosed space at a pressure of (10-30)x 10power 5 Pa in a stream of oxygen. The products of combustion are then: (a) Analysed for sulphur, nitrogen, phosphorous and/or chlorine by dissolving in an aqueous, caustic, oxidising solution free of these elements, or (b) To determine bromine and possibly present chlorine, phosphorus and/or sulphur by dissolving in an aqueous, reducing solution, suitable for bromine - bromide reduction, or (c) To determine iodine and possibly present chlorine, phosphorous, sulphur and/or bromine by dissolving in an aqueous, reducing solution, suitable for iodine - iodide reduction or (d) To determine the metallic content and possibly present chlorine and/or phosphorous by dissolving in an aqueous solution of nitric acid. The resulting aqueous solution is used to determine the quantity of the polluting components by ion-chromatography
|
