PURPOSE:To minimize power consumption, to ensure a given coupling force, and to decrease a time required from coupling, by a method wherein a second current fed to the solenoid of an electromagnetic clutch is decreased over a first current. CONSTITUTION:In case a solenoid 10 is excited, an annular member 4, functioning as an armature, is attracted to the end surface, positioned facing the annular member, of a pulley 7 functioning as a magnetic pole, the two members are brought into firm pressure contact with each other, and with the progress of driving of the pulley 7, a driving wheel 1 of a supercharger is driven through the annular member 4 and a flange 2. With a clutch engaged, a relatively high current is fed to the solenoid 10 for a given time to achieve rapid engagement of an electromagnetic clutch. After a given time lapsed, decrease of a current fed to the solenoid 10 prevents arising of a problem, e.g., a power loss, heat generation of the solenoid.
