PURPOSE:To make a system structure simplify as a whole and also a burden on a control system of a recording device relievable, by using a paper detecting device of the recording device for another paper detecting device of a cut sheet feeder in combination. CONSTITUTION:When a new cut sheet 35 is fed to a printer, it is separated from a bundle 1 by a paper feed roller 12, fed to a platen 152, passing through a paper end sensor 57, striking against an interval between the platen 152 and a pinch roller 156, and this platen 152 slightly rotated, thus a loop is formed at a cut sheet tip end. Afterward, the paper feed roller 12 is stopped, the platen 152 is rotated as far as the specified extent, feeding it up to a printing start position, then printing is started. Thus, a cut sheet feeder is made so as to start its paper feeding motion with output of the paper end sensor 57 of the printer so that it is able to double as a center and, what is more, performing accurate paper feeding operations. Doing like this, a system structure is simplifiable as a whole.
