Alpha-aromatic gp. substd. alkanoic or esters of formula (I) were obtd. by treatment of alpha-sulfonyloxyketone acetal of formula (II) with oxygen affiniting agent. Ar is aromatic gp. ; R1 is H or satd. aliphatic gp., Ar and R1 may forms condensed ring; R2 is H, alkyl or hydroxyalkyl gp.; R3 and R4 are alkyl gp. and may form alkylene; R5 is substd. or non-substd. alkyl or aromatic gp. (I) are useful as the intermediates of antiphlogistic agent or insecticide synthesis.
