PURPOSE:To attain superior tool performance by subjecting a coated steel for a high-speed steel tool obtd. by coating the surface of a high-speed tool steel with a hard compound to hot isostatic process (HIP) treatment under specified conditions of temp., pressure and time so as to increase the adhesion of the coating film to the body and to improve uniformly and stably the quality of the film. CONSTITUTION:A coated steel for a high-speed steel tool obtd. by coating the surface of a high-speed tool steel with a hard compound is subjected to HIP treatment at 300-600 deg.C, preferably 500-550 deg.C under >=800kgf/cm<2> hydrostatic pressure for >=10min. The surface coating of the high-speed tool steel is carried out by a PVD method and TiN or TiC is preferably used as the hard compound.
