PURPOSE:To adequately cool the sample flowing into a sample drawing vessel without loading a special cooling member into the vessel by discretely constituting the sample drawing vessel and block and precooling the sample flowing through the block into the vessel. CONSTITUTION:A sample drawing device 1 is inserted from the top end into a refining furnace and arrives at the inside of the molten steel, then a burnable sheet 23 burns away and the molten steel or the like flows into the block 2 through the inflow port 11 thereof so as to flow through a flow passage 12 into the sample drawing vessel 3. The molten steel or the like is procooled in the passage 12 and after foreign matter is removed therefrom, the molten steel fills the inside of the vessel 3 where the molten steel is quickly cooled and solidified to form the sample having the uniform quality. The molten steel or the like admitted therein through the port 11 in succession thereto is also solidified in the passage 12 and is united integrally with the solidified sample in the vessel 3 via a communicating part 12a. The solidified metal in the part 12a has a thin-walled shape and is easily breakable so that the sample can be easily disconnected from the solidified metal in the passage 12. On the other hand, a temp. sensor 22 is isolated via a partition wall 14 and is therefore protected against the impact and high heat of the molten steel.
