PURPOSE:To aim at enhancing the accumulating capability of paper sheets irrespective of the accumulated amount thereof, by providing such an arrangement that a receiving and guiding means and a pay-out means are swingable during preparation of paper sheet accumulation and during separation for pay- out of paper sheet. CONSTITUTION:A blade wheel 54 rotates counterclockwise in association with the transfer of banknotes B to be accumulated, and therefore, the banknotes each clamped between transfer rollers 58, 59 are pushed into the blade wheel 54. Thereafter, the banknotes B strike upon a stopper 47 so that they separate from the wheel 54, dropping in a space and are successively accumulated on a push plate 62 or already accumulated banknotes B. During this period the push plate 62 is resting. If a set space volume is small, when the blade wheel 54 is pushed upward as the accumulated amount of the banknotes increases, an arm 52 rotates clockwise to energize a photosensor 60. When a drive motor 42 is energized to lower the push plate 62, the photosensor 60 returns it original condition. As a result a predetermined space is formed between the blade wheel 54 and the accumulated banknotes B, thereby it is possible to successively receive and accumulate the banknotes B.
