PURPOSE:To reduce wire drawing resistance in a coating part, by bringing an optical fiber into contact with a coating material through a constricted part in a coating material passage constituted of a pressure part and the constricted part. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 30 drawn from a base material 1 is passed through a nipple hole 17 and die opening 22 of a crosshead 5 at a given speed. On the other hand, a melted coating material 32 is fed from a coating material pressure feeding device 6 to the crosshead 5 at a given flow rate under a specific pressure and passed through a pressure part 26 of a passage 24 and then constricted part 27 to a coating part 31 to coat the outer surface of the optical fiber 30 passing through the coating part 31. The course of the coating material 32 is changed to the moving direction of the optical fiber 30, and the coating material 32, together with the optical fiber 30, is passed through a land part 29 and formed to a given diameter and form the aimed optical fiber coating layer 33.
