PURPOSE:To improve the stability of interface between a solid and liquid and prevent the occurrence of breakout, by heating at least the tip part of a capillary at a higher temperature than the solidifying point of a melt in pulling out the melt from the capillary to give a single crystal fiber. CONSTITUTION:A crucible 1 is provided with a capillary consisting of an unheated capillary 4 and a heated capillary 5 provided at the tip thereof. The heated capillary 5 is heated at a higher temperature than the solidifying point of a melt 2. Preferably, gas supply ports 6 are provided at the melt outlet of the capillary 5, and a cooled inert gas is blown therefrom to give a steeper temperature gradient and further improve the stability of the interface between solid and liquid.
