The blade of the microtome is retained in a holder supported by a frame. A prepn. to be cut into sections of predetermined thickness is located in a holder in one end of an arm, the other end of which fits into a holder via a plate spring arrangement. The arm holder moves horizontally for rough forward feed of the prepn. to the blade with the aid of a positioning unit on the frame. The unit may a comprise a stepped motor controlled via a cable from a control unit, the motor rotary movement being converted to straight linear motion by a transmission. - For fine forward feed of the prepn. to the blade, a piezo electro forward feed and retraction unit is fitted on the arm. Voltage is applied to the unit via a cable from the control unit. An indicator monitors the contact between the blade and the prepn. during rough forward feed and produces a signal to de-activate the rough forward feed mechanism, and activate that for fine forward feed. |
