PURPOSE:To ensure a high transmission ratio, by a method wherein, when the rapid braking condition of a vehicle is detected, transmittion of a power from a belt type continuously variable transmission gear to driving wheels is shut off. CONSTITUTION:The power of an engine 8 is transmitted to driving wheels 21 through a belt-type continuously variable transmission gear 12 and an auxiliary transmission gear 14. A rapid braking means decides whether a car speed is below a set car speed and actual acceleration is higher than set acceleration, and when it decides that a vehicle is in a rapid braking condition, the auxiliary transmission gear 14 is forced into a neutral state to isolate transmission of a power. This prevents a stop of rotation of a variable pulley, enables the transmission ratio of a transmission gear to be changed to a high value, and provides enough acceleration even during the re-starting. |
