PURPOSE:To enable the preparation of an average reference pattern, by arranging a procedure of detecting a plurality of similar shape patterns after a pattern matching is done with patterns collected and a procedure of averaging the similar shape patterns detected. CONSTITUTION:First, an object such as IC lead is converted into a video signal through a camera 11, the scan beam herein used synchronizes a synchronous signal generated from a synchronous signals generation circuit 12 and the coordinates thereof are always obtained from a coordinates generation circuit 13. Then, the video signal is converted into a binary coded signal with a preprocessing circuit 14 and inputted into a primary memory circuit 15 composed of a shift register. From the signal, video information is read out sequentially with the subsequent secondary pattern delivery circuit 16 as square pattern information with a pixel of (n)X(m). A coordinates specification circuit 17 has coordinates registered and specified previously with a microcomputer 20 and the coordinates are always compared with the output coordinates from the coordinates generation circuit 13. When the specified coordinates are given, a pattern delivered from the secondary pattern delivery circuit 16 is memorized into a pattern memory circuit 18 and read out with the microcomputer 20.
