PURPOSE:To obtain a filter element having a wide filtering area and reduced in the resistance of a fluid, by applying pleating processing to a sheet like filter material to form pleats consisting of ridge parts and valley parts and respectively connecting the ridge part and valley part of each pleat up to the predetermined position of an oblique surface. CONSTITUTION:A filter element 10 is constituted by applying pleating processing to a sheet like filter material to form a larger number of pleats 1 consisting of ridge parts 2 and valley parts 3. Both oblique surfaces of each ridge part 2 at one end part of each pleat 1 are close to each other and areas from the apex of the inner surfaces thereof to predetermined positions are adhered by an adhesive to form a first connection part 5. Further, the lower parts not adhered from the lower end of the first connection part 5 of one end part 4 of the pleat 1 are obliquely folded back from the predetermined position of the valley part 3 to form a first oblique wall 6. By the same way, connection parts are formed to other pleats to form a filter body. Therefore, the extension of life is attained by the increase in a filtering area and filtering accuracy can be enhanced.
