PURPOSE:To improve the transparency by applying thin film forming liquid containing specific organic metal compound onto the inside of front face plate then thermally decomposing to provide a transparent conductive film of metal oxide containing no halogen atom. CONSTITUTION:An anode 6 where fluorescent material 4 is applied onto a conductor 5, a control electrode 7, a filament cathode 8, etc. are arranged in a vacuum enclosure to form a fluorescent character display tube. The transpar ent conductive film 11 to be provided at the inside of the front plate 3 to shield the outer electric field is formed by applying liquid containing organic metal compound shown by general formula M(OCOR)n.(C5H7O2)a-n (Where, M is metallic atom such as Sn, In, R is alkyl group, (a) is valency of metallic atom and (n) is a number satisfying 1<=n<a.) then thermally decomposing and forming metal oxide containing no halogen atom. Consequently, whitening phenomenon or degradation of transparency due to halogen atom such as chlorine can be prevented resulting in improvement of the characteristic.
