PURPOSE:To decrease illuminating light to the peripheral part of read part of an original, and to prevent deterioration of a quality of a read image by providing a light shielding part on which a transmission hole part is pierced so that the illuminating light is focused to the read part of the original, between an original platen and an illuminating means. CONSTITUTION:A light shielding plate 10 being a light shielding part on which a transmission hole part 10a is pierced in the center part is attached so as to cover the opening part, to an opening part peripheral edge of an illumination holding member 11. A width of the transmission hole part 20a is calculated as geometrical optics, based on the diameter of a fluorescent lamp 2, the distance from the fluorescent lamp 2 to a read part 5, etc., and set so as to suppress the light which is irradiated to the peripheral part of the read part 5, and made incident on the read part 5 through the surface of the fluorescent lamp 2. In a such an original still type reader, when the fluorescent lamp 2 is lighted, its illuminating light is focused by the light shielding plate 10, and irradiated to the rear part 5. The light which is irradiated to the read part 5 does not contain a secondary reflected light by the peripheral part of the read part 5, and this light passes through a slit 201, forms an image in a CCD9 through a reflecting mirror 7 and a lens 8, and it is brought to a photoelectric conversion by the CCD9.
