DETECTOR FOR OIL OR THE LIKE

PURPOSE:To maintain the detection performance of oil or the like satisfactorily over a long time, by covering the circumference of the core of an optical fiber with a copper film with a part thereof lacking circumferentially to prevent the proliferation of microorganisms attached to the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:Numerous optical fibers 2 are gathered to compose an optical fiber sensor section 12. The section 12 is bent in a shape of U at the length-wise center thereof and a connector 13 is mounted at both ends thereof through a connector cover 35. A core 17 made of a tension resistant material such as stainless wire and a copper buffer material 13 arranged side by side therewith 17 are provided at both ends of the section 12. A buffer material 18 made of polyethylene is mounted to protect the core 17 and the wire material 33 and a buffer material 18 is arranged intermittently along the length to run water, oil or the like into a clearance 34. Moreover, a protective film 20 with no hole is bonded on the buffer material 18, the section 12 is housed into the film 20 and oil or the like is detected with a detector 21. This can prevent the proliferation of microorganisms attached to the fiber 2.
