PURPOSE:To enable the detailed observation of a waveform before a triggering by detecting the first equivalent sampling pulse after a gate pulse is generated among the equivalent sampling pulses. CONSTITUTION:An input signal 1 is supplied to a gate signal generating circuit 4 through a trigger detecting circuit 2 and a trigger pulse generating circuit 3 to produce a gate pulse 13. A gate period detecting circuit 5 detects the period T of the pulse 13 and calculates a pretrigger time tau in terms of a delay time (T-tau) using a signal 14 indicating the pretrigger time tau. A gate signal delay circuit 6 produces a delayed gate pulse 15 in which the signal 13 is delayed by the time (T-tau). A sampling pulse generating circuit 10 produces an equivalent sampling pulse 17 on the basis of a sawtooth wave in synchronism with the pulse 15. A trigger timing detecting circuit 11 detects the first pulse 17 after the pulse 13 is generated to produce a trigger timing signal 19. Using the signal 19, a detailed observation of a waveform before a triggering can be performed.
