PURPOSE:To prevent the folded condition of a ribbon enclosed in a ribbon cassette from being disordered or distorted when the cassette is not mounted and enable the ribbon to be smoothly fed when the cassette is mounted, by moving a partition member to the upper casing side against an elastic member by bosses inserted through holes when a ribbon cassette is mounted. CONSTITUTION:When the ribbon cassette 21 is not mounted, a partition plate 37 is moved to the side of a printing ribbon 29 by a compression spring 39, is supported on projected support parts 31a-31d, the spacing between the ribbon 29 and the plate 37 is set to be l2, and movement of the ribbon 29 in the cassette 21 is restricted, whereby the folded and contained condition of the ribbon 29 is prevented from being disordered or distorted. When the cassette 21 is mounted, the plate 37 is pushed upward against the spring 39 by the bosses 17a-17d inserted into the holes 33a-33d, and the spacing between the ribbon 29 and the plate 37 is set to be l1, whereby running resistance of the ribbon is reduced at the time of a printing operation, resulting in smooth feeding of the ribbon.
